Cul Beag is the first mountain that overlooks the minor road to Achiltibuie. It is not as high as its neighbour Cul Mor and does not posess the same degree of individuality that characterises other mountains in the region. We have viewed the steeper western crags from Stac Pollaidh but have not ventured up the slopes.
The summit can be reached by climbing the south eastern slopes from the minor road just west of Drumrunie, or by a longer route up the eastern ridge over the top at Meall Dearg using the paths that start from the old road just south of Knockan. Ascents from the west are listed in the guide books but seem excessively steep. Start up the stalkers path east of Linneraineach to a small lochan at the height of the pass, from there strike up the steep slope to a col just above a slight knoll on the ridge. From there it continues just as steeply to the summit; a total climb of 500m in under one and half kilometres - not my kind of walking. The stalkers path looks a good route in to explore the area between Cul Mor and Cul Beag - one to visit some day.
